The year 2008 was not too bad for the global IT sector because it saw a growth of about 8.2 percent. This happened even after the onslaught of the economical meltdown. This helped the whole industry gain a good amount of profit. The profit reached to a good sum of about $ 806 billion, which was a definite increase over the earning of 2007. That year the global turnover was $ 745 billion.

In this global high India too managed a growth of about 12.9 percent. It is true that the suddenness of recession hit India really hard but it has worked out the ways to get out of that scenario and one of them is innovation. That is why many BPO companies want to see its managers to become more innovative.

That is why there have been several tests by various organizations to gauge the kind of innovative thought that various BPO workers and managers have. After all it is the manager who is supposed to lead the path and help the company get the desired result.

In fact mere cost saving is not enough. Right now companies believe that they need to do something special and find out innovative means to solve a problem or deliver a project. Without this combination, cost saving and innovation, no company can survive for long in the BPO market under the current economical circumstances.

So, right now all Indian companies are trying to focus on innovation. In the recent strategy summit organized by Nasscom almost all the major companies have agreed on the necessity of this innovativeness.

This is not all the Indian BPO industry experts say that all the companies need to utilize their resources and infrastructure to its ultimate level. And only then can they expect to get improved growth rate.

Apart from innovation BPO companies can strengthen their base in the domestic market even more. Going for cloud computing is another option to cut cost but preventing lay off. Already the industry has seen even less than one percent lay off of work force in the sector.

Infosys is currently making an attempt to venture into the rural areas and establish its offices there. On the other hand there are various Indian institutes and open universities that are providing curses related to BPO industry. This will help prepare students in the nitty-gritty of this business and will also save the company’s money that it spends in training new recruits.

And all these efforts have already paid off. India has secured a growth rate of 37 percent. This has helped it gain a revenue of $ 14.7 billion this year compared to $ 11 billion it managed to accumulate last year.

Thus Indian BPO saga continues to be a successful one despite the down turn.

Though the recession period is yet to say goodbye Indian outsourcing market is really having some positive developments. On one hand there is an increase in recruitment and on the other it is seen that it still has a great fan following in the US. It is still seen to be the best place to offshore various back office and Business Process Outsourcing jobs. The good news does not end here, however, various outsourcing companies in India have also found a much-decreased rate of attrition due to the recession.

According to the figures of January-March companies involved in Business Process Outsourcing and other Information Technology related jobs have recruited 0.82 percent more people. This news comes as a boon at a time when people are very much afraid of losing their jobs. Right now with a stable government reelected at the helm of power people involved in this business are hoping that the situation will only turn for betterment.

Moreover, it is known that Wipro is slated to hire about 8,000 more employees this financial year. All the new recruitments will be done for its outsourcing business. Moreover, the company will find out talented workers from various Indian states that include Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

While employees are happy about getting an increasing opportunity to work with the best employers are also quite happy that the attrition rate are coming down. Big multinational companies like Genpact, Wipro, EXL, and WNS have all seen a good number of their employees saying ‘no’ to the lure of joining another company.

In Genpact and Wipro the rate of attrition has come down by 5 percent. So, now the revised attrition rate in both the companies is 21 percent and 13 percent respectively. But it is EXL that has recorded the best figures in this regard. The rate is lesser by 12.8 percent. In the case of WNS the rate has come down by 7 percent.

In fact most of the Indian IT firms have stopped merely depending on layoffs to handle the economical crises. They are trying to get innovative and that is why many of them have focused on controlling their operational costs.

The above-mentioned good news are basically complemented the fact that India still is the front-runner whenever a company decides to outsource its business and services. In this regard it leads the table placing other Asian countries like China, and Malaysia in the second and third places respectively.

This particular information will definitely allay the fear that might have been generated due to the hard stance taken by American President Barack Obama regarding outsourcing. Two things have basically worked behind this choice. One is the less expensive workforce and the other is the quality of the work.

These incidents show that the Indian BPO is still the most happening place and right now it has created lots of hope for a brighter future.

The Philippines has been one of the major Asian hot spots as far as Business Process Outsourcing is concerned. Presently BPO jobs here are not concentrated in Manila alone but other provinces have also become important players. That is why President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is so enthusiastic about including these provinces in her “Cyber Corridor”. The new cities that have seen a great surge of BPO industries include Cebu, Mataki, Leyte, Davao City, Iloila City, Bacolod City, and Pampanga, among others.

Though Manila still commands a large share of the BPO jobs, there are other cities like Cebu that are currently in huge demand. International firms like Live2Care, and Wipro Technologies have already opened their offices here and other companies are preparing to do the same by the end of 2010. The business is so prosperous here that industrialists involved in BPO can contribute up to 20 percent of the total revenue earned by the Government from BPO.

The importance of Davao City, on the other hand, can be clearly seen from the fact that last year it saw almost 56 percent growth in the BPO jobs. There are various schools in this city that provide training that would ultimately help one to get settled in the BPO sector.

The present Government has done its best to provide the right kind of necessary infrastructure in most of its major cities rather than focusing solely on a single one. This is the reason why the Philippines have seen a steady growth in the BPO sector even though there are reports of job losses in other sectors. It is also projected that its BPO sector will keep on growing and will reach 20 to 30 percent before the end of 2009. This will translate into adding around 100,000 new employees.

According to a research conducted by the Global Services magazine, Makati, another Philippine city, is currently one of the major BPO hubs. Right now this country is creating some buzz in the Business Process Outsourcing industry!

Protectionism can destroy a business without benefiting anyone. That is what, it seems, is happening to the Business Process Outsourcing sector. This is the very industry that generated revenue of about US$ 234 billion in 2005. The countries that are involved in this business include various European and Asian nations like the UK, Spain, Russia, India, Philippines, China, Japan, and Pakistan. Even the US has a large interest in this market as many of its companies are involved in this outsourcing process. That is why the protectionist laws primarily coming up in the UK and the USA would harm all these players and would not help the global market in any way.

Even at the beginning of the Financial Year 2006 the BPO industry made a profit of $ 22.7 billion. According to a survey conducted by National Outsourcing Association it was estimated that the global BPO industry would generate $ 323, 600 million by the end of the year 2011.
